Tailback Jones out 3 games
CORAL GABLES — Charlie Jones, the University of Miami's most experienced tailback, will miss the Hurricanes' first three games and possibly more, coach Randy Shannon said Thursday.
Shannon, who has said he will not discuss the nature of any injury to any player, declined to say whether Jones, a senior, would require surgery.
The 5-foot-10, 219-pound Jones was injured shortly after fall practice began on Aug. 4 and has not worked out for two weeks.
"I don't know when he's going to be back," Shannon said. "He'll be out for a minimum of three weeks."
Jones started UM's first three games last season before losing his job to Javarris James.
James and freshman Graig Cooper are expected to get the majority of the snaps as well as junior Derrion Thomas.
Spy at practice? Shannon said that someone attempted to videotape the Hurricanes' practice on Thursday from a multi-level garage directly behind UM's practice fields. Shannon said UM security chased the person away, but he returned.
The coach said he will call the police the next time it happens.
"That is a discouraging thing, when you are trying to do something, somebody is at practice and you don't know if they are for Marshall or against you," Shannon said.
UM opens the season on Sept. 1 against Marshall in the Orange Bowl.
