Hurricanes report: Notes, quotes
The Hurricanes unleashed a devastating ground attack against Marshall with TBs Javarris James and Graig Cooper combining for 215 of their 260 yards total. The key was keeping the offensive line fresh with tackles Jason Fox, Chris Rutledge and Reggie Youngblood and guards Andrew Bain, Derrick Morse and Orlando Franklin all alternating. The passing game, however, left a lot to be desired with QB Kirby Freeman going only nine of 21 with an interception. The wide receivers had some key drops.
SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
The defense got to Marshall for six sacks and held the Thundering Herd to just 51 yards net rushing. The deepest the Herd drove into Miami territory was the 8, where the Hurricanes stopped the visitors on fourth-and-one, when Marshall's Bernard Morris lost his footing on a quarterback sneak. The Hurricanes did give up some big plays in the passing game, however, which coach Randy Shannon blamed mostly on miscommunication in the secondary.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Any similarities? He likes to win, and I like to win." -- Coach Randy Shannon, asked about similarities between him and his opposing coach this week, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops.
