There's one last chance for the public to meet the Miami Hurricanes before they leave Dec. 22 for the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.
The 2008 seniors will be recognized Sunday at the UM Football Awards Banquet at the Westin Colonnade in Coral Gables, and tickets still remain.
Individual awards will be announced in various categories, including the team's Most Valuable Player. Former UM offensive lineman and WQAM Hurricanes color analyst Don Bailey Jr. will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. The cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m., with the awards ceremony at 7 p.m.
Fans will be able to mingle with the players.
Tickets to the banquet are $50 and can be purchased by calling the Hurricane Club at 305-284-6699. Fans calling from outside the local area can call 800-GO-CANES (option 6).
INJURY REPORT
• UM coach Randy Shannon said at Sunday's bowl-related news conference that receiver TravisBenjamin is ''doubtful'' for the bowl game. "He's still limping around a little bit,"
Shannon said. "With athletes like Travis -- small-skill guys, those guys make so many sharp turns that when you see him running, he can't make the turns yet. When you have a high-ankle sprain, it takes time. Look how long it took to get JavarrisJames back."
• Quarterback Jacory Harris is "Ok"
for the game, Shannon said. "It's his [throwing] arm. He said he was just a little sore [on Saturday night], but he's throwing and doing all those types of things. He's fine. He'll be ready to go."
EMMY WINNERS
UM coordinator of video Stewart Cramer and MBA candidate Michael O'Leary won a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award for the athletic department-produced commercial Mosaic at the 2008 Suncoast Emmy Awards.
Nominated for the 2008 Advanced Media Emmy's Outstanding Commercial, Mosaic was created to highlight the Hurricanes' Olympic sports in a 30-second commercial.
• The Hurricanes, who are taking final exams beginning Wednesday, resume practice Saturday afternoon.
