Mark Stoops mentioned for Miami job
University of Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is considered a possible successor to take over similar duties with the Miami Hurricanes.
Sporting News reported Wednesday that Stoops, who was the secondary coach for Miami before joining the Wildcats after the 2003 season, is considered the top candidate to replace Tim Walton.
Stoops has been rumored for jobs in the past, including the head coaching position at Rice a year ago and as an assistant with the Miami Dolphins under then-coach Nick Saban.
Walton was fired from the Hurricanes after Miami allowed 312 points this season, including 51 to Oklahoma and 48 to Virginia.
Charlie Strong, a co-coordinator at Florida, is also being considered for the job, Sporting News reports.
