Miami-Florida fires defensive coordinator
Miami Hurricanes head football coach Randy Shannon has reportedly fired defensive coordinator Tim Walton.
According to the Miami Herald, citing two unnamed sources, Shannon fired Walton on Monday.
The Hurricanes finished this season 5-7 and missed a bowl for the first time in 10 years. The defense, traditionally the program's strong point, ranked 30th nationally in total defense and 53rd in scoring defense.
Walton, 36, took over the defensive coordinator duties prior to the 2007 season after spending three years as the defensive backs coach.
Shannon was the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator for six seasons before taking over as head coach at the end of the 2006 campaign.
